Mobile Learning

Teachers should embrace mobile learning because it is a great tool to keep kids engaged. Students love playing with technology. Many kids already have mobile devices so why not use it for educational purposes. Teachers can incorporate mobile learning each day to show kids that learning can be fun. Some issues/challenges with mobile learning is that children can be distracted by apps that are not educational. One solution to this problem is to block all apps that are not educational. Many people think that children spend enough time on mobile devices outside the classroom. One way to tackle this problem is by limiting the amount of time the students use the mobile devices. I think that mobile devices can be helpful in all subject areas. Some applications that I think might be useful in the classroom are Counting and Addition, Stack the States, and Word Challenge. Counting and Addition is a great application to get preschoolers ready for kindergarten math. Preschoolers can practice basic addition and subtracting if they download this app. Stack the States is a good application for fifth graders. This application allows students to locate states on a U.S. map. This application is a good tool to use when students are having a difficult time identifying states. Word Challenge is a wonderful app for increasing a students vocabulary. This application allows students match a definition to the best matching word. I would use this application to help students improve writing skills.

Educational Leadership

1. I believe that we can define what it means to be information literate. I think that being information literate you are able to identify and evaluate the difference between credible and non credible websites.
2. I think we can we teach our students to have the skills essential to information literacy. Educational Leadership states that to evaluate the accuracy of a website you should look for length, text revisions, editorial ratings, and patterns of editing.
3. I believe that we can truly prepare students to be effective users of the most powerful medium. If we continue to educate students on how to determine if a website is reliable they will be effective users of the most powerful medium.

Podcasting

Podcasting is a great tool to keep students informed. I would use podcasts to inform students about projects and difficult assignments. I could recored specific directions or update assignments just in case students do not understand what they need to do. I all so think podcasts are a great resource for students to communicate with there peers. I would encourage students to help each other using podcasting. Lastly I would use podcasting to notify students quickly if I am going to be absent and what I want them to do while I am gone.

Video Creation And Podcasting

I could use video creation and podcasting in my classroom in multiple ways. I could assign students to do a research project requiring them to incorporate video creation and podcasting. I could also recored my lessons and podcast them to my class blog so students have fast access to my lectures if they need help.

Flickr

I would use Flickr in the classroom to help enhance my presentations. I would use relevant images from flicker to help engage students when I give presentations. I would all so urge my students to become a member of Flickr to explore what other students around the world are posting. Learning about other cultures through Flickr is a great resource because students can actually converse with others in a safe environment.

Prezi Presentation

Presentations

I was already aware that when making a power point you should rarely use bullet points. I was not aware that you can make graphs 3-D.  According to Presentationzen, using 3-D graphs are not the best way to show your data. You should always use 2-D graphs to make it easier for your audience to understand the  graph. 3-D graphs can sometimes be hard to figure out. I can make sure to always use 2-D graphs in my presentations and recommend that my students do the same. I have seen many presentations use 3-D charts that were hard to understand. I have also seen a lot of power points have lengthy bullet points on each slide.
